The Federal High Court in Kano has fixed May 18, 2026, for the hearing of a suit filed by the Islamic Research and Da’awa Foundation, Abuja, against Arewa24 Television and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over alleged violations of Islamic and Hausa cultural values.

The Foundation is challenging the content of certain programmes aired by Arewa24, which it claims are inconsistent with Islamic teachings and the cultural norms of Hausa society. It also alleges breaches of the NBC Broadcasting Code, particularly in relation to decency and public morality.
In the suit, the Islamic Research and Da’awa Foundation is listed as the plaintiff, while Network Arewa24 Ltd. and the NBC are named as defendants.
The case, which has experienced initial delays, is expected to proceed on the adjourned date following earlier sittings. Beyond the courtroom, the dispute reflects a wider regulatory controversy involving the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Northern Broadcast Media Owners Association (NBMOA).
The group has raised concerns over what it describes as illegal broadcasting and advertising practices in Nigeria’s airspace, as well as questions surrounding the licensing of Arewa24, a foreign-owned television channel.
The plaintiffs say the legal action is aimed at enforcing compliance with established broadcasting standards and safeguarding the moral and cultural values of communities in Northern Nigeria.
